Affordable but of good quality TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tip) forstner drill bit that guarantees hundreds of cleanly drilled holes in both soft and hardwood.
The strong center point and cutting teeth ensure a clean bore with a clean edge.

The big advantage of a Forstner drill compared to a speed drill is that it does not start to chop / hit when drilling freehand.
The Forstner drill will certainly show its advantage with larger diameters and lower speed.
Another important advantage of a Forstner drill is that it does not have a long centering point, which means that a much less thick piece of (waste) wood is needed to
to drill neatly through the material.
Drilling without a bottom plate is of course possible, but in most cases this gives a less tight result on the underside of the
workpiece by breaking out of the material.
This drill bit is less suitable for drilling end edges of soft woods.

TUNGSTEN CARBIDE TIP (TCT)
Tungsten carbide is about twice as stiff as steel, with a Young's modulus of about 530-700 GPa (77,000 to 102,000 ksi), and is double the
density of steel - almost half that of lead and gold. It is comparable to corundum (α-Al2O3) in hardness.
The tungsten carbide tip is specially designed to cut holes cleanly in end grain and thin material, ideal for drilling concealed hinges and door locks.

The best result is of course obtained with a stationary machine, but freehand drilling is also very well possible with a Forstner drill.
